Easy Green Shop was a proud sponsor of the Oakland County Green Summit held on Tuesday, May 19. It was obvious that Oakland County is giving some of its businesses a gentle push toward sustainability by encouraging them to “Go Green!”
The Troy-based event covered a wide range of issues geared toward making companies more environmentally friendly, including corporate sustainability, the legalese of going green, pros and cons of LEED certification, local government carrots and sticks for going green, and a primer for energy audits.
The idea of the summit was to help push businesses toward sustainable practices to save them money, improve their environment, and build communities’ reputation for sustainability.
Bill Stough, CEO of the Grand Rapids-based Sustainable Research Group, served as the events keynote speaker. He has 25 years of experience in sustainable business practices and is the founder of the West Michigan sustainable Business forum.
Green Business awards were eco-friendly plaques fabricated from sustainably-harvested Lyptus wood and were given to Kresge Foundation, Walsh College, and LaFontaine Automotive Group. Oakland County also awarded green city awards to the following: City of Auburn Hills, City of Birmingham, City of Farmington Hills and the City of Rochester Hills.
